Baby boomers and joint replacements
- Posted on: Feb 27 2018
More and more, I see New York baby boomers in need of hip and knee joint replacements. From war and Woodstock to tech advances and incredible scientific discoveries, boomers have seen it all. They are engaged in their communities, passionate about various causes, and, increasingly, dedicated to their health. It can be incredibly frustrating when your body does not allow you to do the things that you want, and this is something I often see among baby boomers dealing with chronic pain in their joints. Fortunately, there are options for restoring joint health, and I am extensively trained in providing that care. Here are a few reasons that joint replacements are a helpful fit for qualified boomers.
Research shows that baby boomers are incredible at group projects and working together for a greater good. Unfortunately, chronic joint pain can keep individuals away from participation in these types of matters. With a new knee or hip, pain won’t slow you down or keep you from enjoying collaborative efforts, whether that’s at the office, on a recreational sports team, or just a fun project with friends.
Whether they are wrapping up a bucket list or just hoping to spend one on one time with a loved one, boomers are eager to travel. A recent study found that boomers have an average of eight places they want to visit after retirement. That’s a lot of driving, flying, and cruising. If you are eager to travel, you certainly don’t want joint pain to get in the way of your enjoyment. Tackling arthritic or otherwise damaged hips and knees can make getting to your dream destination less stressful and more relaxing.
Retirement today looks a lot different than it did just a few decades ago. Baby boomers who are facing retirement aren’t planning on just kicking back and relaxing. They are incredibly engaged in hobbies, from ballroom dancing and cross country skiing to gardening and biking. They are eager to continue their favorite activities and even start participating in new ones. Joint replacements can make it easier to stay involved in these activities, so they are a helpful solution to extensive knee or hip pain.
Time with family
As individuals age, they often see their family grow as grandchildren are added to the mix and children get married. In these situations, boomers don’t want to miss out on a single moment. Unfortunately, sometimes pain keeps people at home. Fortunately, a joint repair or replacement can be a helpful solution for getting back out in the world to witness important family milestones.
Most boomers have worked hard to get to where they are in life, and they are certainly deserving of a pain-free life. If you have questions about joint replacements or are interested in learning more about your options, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. We are happy to help you during your journey!
